In this week's app review, I took a look at the app, "Semper", which is an innovative way to learn foreign language vocabulary. You can watch the review below. After the jump there is a quick tutorial on how to make your own lists of vocabulary.
In order to make sure that the card making process was as easy as they said it was on their website, I made my own cards using the vocabulary from my video and blog about German hospital vocabulary. You can download the list here, if you want.
Obviously, the first thing you want to do is go to Semper's website. From there, click "Pack Creator" from the top right of the page.
You will then have to log in to the website in the same way that you logged into the app on your phone.
Then you can simply click "Create Pack" and fill out the necessary information for your cards.
Once you have saved the general information about your pack, you will have to add the words by using Google Sheets.
In order for this to work properly, you will need to download the Semper Pack Creator add-on for Google Sheets. The instructions for using the add-on are listed off to the side of the Google Sheet you are working on, but it was intuitive enough for me that I didn't really need to read them.
Once you have started the Semper Pack Creator add-on, your sheet should look like it does below. You simply have to type the English and German vocabulary words you want. I chose to have Semper make the incorrect answers automatically, but you can customize this if you want. This is helpful if you need to distinguish between several answers that are similar. While you are creating your cards, you will see the Semper options on the right side, which is the second picture below.
Once you hit "Publish" or "Auto-Publish" your cards will be live. You will be sent an email telling you that your cards are live and you will be given a link to send to other users, who might also like your list. When I opened the Semper app the next time, the pack was already loaded on my phone and was ready to go.
