In this week's German tip video I talked about some quirks that come up when raising a bilingual child. There are a ton of people who consider themselves to be experts on this topic. While I don't consider myself to be an expert, as I am pretty much just making it up as I go, there are a few people, whom I would consider to be experts on this topic. I'd like to introduce you to a few of them in this blog post.
There are so many awesome things on this website, that you could actually use it as your only source of information about raising a bilingual child and you would more than likely have more information than you will ever need. Their blog is fantastic. I read it all of the time just to get new ideas and to see what other people are doing in order to raise their children bilingually. They even have a forum for parents of bilingual children on their site. You can share ideas there and get help if you are struggling with something.
I have mentioned this website before, but I think it bears repeating in this blog post. You can find a bunch of German (an other language) children's books for free in PDF format. I have Google Chromecast on my TV, which means I can put anything on my laptop onto my TV. This allows me to read books on my TV with Sophia in German. If my wife wants to read the same book, it is more than likely also available in English.
This site isn't necessarily dedicated to raising bilingual children, but it does have a really helpful blog that can help you get past the basic fears that come with raising a bilingual child. Will I confuse them? Will they mix up the languages?
This is another great site with a ton of information that you can use to learn how to teach your child a second language. This includes frequently asked questions, online and text resources, and more. It is definitely a good resource to bookmark and go to when you are having trouble.
