This week's 3 Minuten Deutsch videos wrap up our talks about the irregular verbs with the present perfect in German. I talked about several verbs that follow pretty standard patterns in their past participles. You can watch the videos below, but there are other examples of these patterns that I couldn't fit into the videos after the jump.

verlieren - verloren - to lose
Wir verlieren das Spiel. - We are losing the game.
Wir haben das Spiel verloren. - We lost the game.
ziehen - gezogen - to pull
Zieht ihr am Türgriff? - Are you pulling on the door handle?
Habt ihr am Türgriff gezogen? - Did you pull on the door handle?
Caution: Don’t forget that this one also changes from “h” to “g”.

singen - gesungen - to sing
Ich singe nicht gern. - I don’t like to sing.
Ich habe nicht gern gesungen. - I didn’t like singing.
trinken - getrunken - to drink
Der Junge trinkt gern Tee. - The boy likes to drink tea.
Der Junge hat gern Tee getrunken. - The boy liked to drink tea.

schwimmen - geschwommen - to swim Fische schwimmen im Wasser. - Fish swim in water. Fische sind im Wasser geschwommen. - Fish swam in the water.

helfen - geholfen - to help
Die Lehrerin hilft dem Kind mit den Hausaufgaben. - The teacher is helping the child with the homework.

sprechen - gesprochen - to speak
Der Trainer spricht mit dem Schiedsrichter. - The coach is talking with the referee.
Der Trainer hat mit dem Schiedsrichter gesprochen. - The coach talked with the referee.
sterben - gestorben - to die
Dracula stirbt nie. - Dracula never dies.
Dracula ist nie gestorben. - Dracula never died.
treffen - getroffen - to meet Ich treffe mich mit meinen Freunden in der Schule. - I am meeting my friends in school. Ich habe mich mit meinen Freunden in der Schule getroffen. - I met my friends in school.
There are a ton of other irregular German verbs that follow these and other patterns. The bottom line is that you will just have to memorize them.
