Genitive Prepositions

anstatt - instead of

Anstatt eines Hauses kaufe ich mir lieber eine Insel. - Instead of a house, I prefer to buy myself an island.

Mein Vater kommt anstatt meiner Mutter zur Party. - My father is coming to the party instead of my mother.

trotz - in spite of

Trotz der Gefahr geht Aladdin in die Schatzhöhle. - In spite of the danger, Aladdin is going into the cave of wonders.

Trotz des Sicherheitssystems hat der Räuber den Schatz gestohlen. - In spite of the security system, the robber stole the treasure.

während - during

Die Schüler sollen nicht während des Schultags schlafen. - The students shouldn't sleep during the school day.

Während der Reise werden wir müde sein. - During the trip we will be tired.

wegen - because of

Rotkäppchen geht wegen des Wolfes nicht in den Wald. - Red Riding Hood isn't going into the forest, because of the wolf.

Wegen meiner Schwester darf ich nicht mehr ins Kino. - Because of my sister, I am not allowed to go to the theater.

außerhalb - outside of

Mein Hund schläft außerhalb meines Hauses. - My dog sleeps outside of my house.

Jay und Bob stehen außerhalb des Nachbarschaftsladens. - Jay and Bob are standing outside of the convenience store.

innerhalb - inside of

Man kann nicht mehr innerhalb eines Gebäudes rauchen. - One isn't allowed to smoke inside of a building any more.

Es gibt einen Geist innerhalb meines Autos. - There is a ghost inside of my car.

jenseits - on the other side of, beyond

Jenseits einer Stadt gibt es immer eine andere Stadt. - On the other side of a city there is always another city.

Jenseits der See befindet sich ein Land voller Hoffnung. - Beyond the ocean there is a country full of hope.

diesseits - on this side of

Diesseits des Hauses kann man mich nicht sehen. - On this side of the hour, they can't see me.

Diesseits des Landes gibt es keine Starbucks. - On this side of the country there are no Starbucks.
